fire/fight

A building on fire. Two sisters in limbo. Three generations at war.

Written by Kai Kenzie Pascal, fire/fight is an irreverent and incisive study of family (dys)function, working-class politics, grief, and the ultimate betrayal. Fiercely rhythmic and provocative, the play was staged with an incorporation of body percussion and spoken word physicality that asked the question: "What happens when someone / something gets left behind?"

tapping on bone

tapping on bone is an excavation of the stories we tell ourselves as we evolve — the realisation that growing up isn’t all it’s cut out to be. Reaching each milestone as we age has always seemed like something to celebrate. Why does it feel like we are moving in circles, still? Entirely devised with muscle memory, the anatomy of flight, and personal histories, the play dissects the rituals / dreams that bind us through a fusion of surrealist performance and explosive physicality.

homotopy

An excavation of the soma as an acoustic artefact, the research project is an intercultural exploration of sound that dives deep into its intersections with cognitive neuroscience, metaphysics, cosmology, and the (un)conscious body in performance. Through tactile experimentations with data and musicology, homotopy is an intimate study of human modalities — all within a communal act of listening. Can you travel through time with an ear to your heart?

parthenogenesis:

parthenogenesis: is as much a performance about absence as it is a plea for presence. This interdisciplinary (n)one-woman show calls upon raw testimony, found text, multimedia interactions, and spoken word poetry – the fusion unfolding in a space where everyone's in the dark. It aims to be a tangible representation of the asexual individual's experience of love and sex, in a world that has hardwired us to believe that we are unable to be whole without either.

Angel

An interdisciplinary show influenced by The Bacchae, that interweaves Expressionist dance motifs, metatheatrics, Ancient Greek cheironomia, socio-political commentary, and haunting poetry. In association with Maenad Theatre Collective

Angel is a Bacchanalian tragedy of Ancient proportions, flung kicking and screaming into the modern day. It is a brutal and ecstatic take on the politics of rebellion and family, youth in revolt, and the fallacies of extreme ideology on either ends of the spectrum today.

Chateau Marmont

#metoo #mewho? Chateau Marmont is a searing satire set within the blurred lines of sexual coercion, where some of the damage is collateral..and some isn’t.

Written by playwright Katerina Watson, the play is a wrangling of personal morals and an obfuscation of demarcating lines. Combining spoken word, soliloquy, and Ancient Greek mythology / tragedy, it’s ultimately an examination of the personal cost of a dream so powerful, that a $41.7 billion industry rests upon it. In association with Nouveau Riché

Talking Heads

set in the backyards of Botswana, two Batswanan women discuss love, marriage and life. In association with Global Voices Theatre at the Arcola Theatre.

"[The play's title] is a loaded comment on the fact that many times womxn are represented through words but not in action. I wrote in a trans character because I realise that as trans people we are more often than not made these sexual beings without any dimension."

- Katlego Kolanyane-Kesupile, playwright

The Optic Trilogy

first and foremost a play of and on our senses. Composing of 3 interconnected stories, each a duet between strangers, this play is a meditation on memory and perception — capturing the poetry of chance meetings in a cold and pitiless Singaporean landscape. Utilised a tripartite approach of sonar landscapes, virtual projection and lighting as tools to create the interwoven narratives. Lauded to be the first professional production of a Southeast Asian play to be staged in Royal Holloway University, and was invited to perform at the Sight-Unseen Drama Conference at Tara Theatre (organised by Aurora Metro Books).

in:dentation

a theatrical experiment that has the body both as a constant and as a variable. The form of your physicality endures, but the memories attached to each limb, each feature, shapes the way you move, use and describe them. Through verbal and non-verbal techniques, the show strives to unravel the stories from the silent storyteller – memories so interwoven, they become flesh and bone itself.

Universal-27.jpg
